How to keep away a squirrel from eating your flower buds

No really!
I am very fond of maintaining green plants in my balcony, and many of them are flower plants. There's a lot of greenery around in the campus where I live, and hence squirrels, cats, birds etc are a common sight..
A recent problem that I'm facing is that as soon as a bud grows on any flowering plant, the squirrels around come and gobble them up! It never becomes a flower!! All I see are some shattered dreams of an unbloomed flower :(

But what could I have done?

First, I tried to scare the squirrel away, but then I couldn't permanently stay in the balcony to chase her.
Second, I kept the plant inside the living room, and closed the balcony door. That wouldn't help either, as the plant needed a lot of sunshine, and it kinda started dying inside.

Third, I evoked the philosopher inside me! I told myself in the mirror every morning, that it is God's flower, and it is God's squirrel. Let it eat! Who am I to interfere! Sigh... this was indeed helpful for many days, but it was still very heartbreaking to see that the very plants I watered every day, never had a chance to bear any flower .. !

That's when I decided to surrender to the Google God. I took refuge in Its mighty resourceful ocean of knowledge. I was more than certain that if there is a question, Google has the answer.

And here's what Google had to say to my life-wrecking situation.
Spray medicines
- bury mothballs inside flowers
- buy a dog to keep away the squirrels
etc.. etc..

BUT HERE'S WHAT REALLY WORKED!  :)

:) :)

Sometimes things are way more simple than we think. Lets uncomplicate our lives - lets 'not' GOOGLE everything :)
